Weather; Mostly sunny
After a suburb Christmas day in Nozawa Onsen we have a continuation of sunshine and light winds. With superb powder snow on offer yesterday and very few people out skiing untracked areas remained even on piste well into the afternoon. For those out skiing the quality of the conditions were perhaps the best christmas present one might ask for.
At the moment we have an inversion layer across mid elevations with cooler temperatures at the bottom than top. We expect temperatures to warm up a little with a frontal system approaching from Siberia, due at some point tonight.
Best skiing will be the groomed runs, which are in top notch condition. Higher areas of trees are slowly filling in and are skiable for upper intermediate to advanced riders.
Looking further ahead we expect moderate snows to commence tonight before continuing into tomorrow, gradually receding into Saturday. A clearing trend is expected on Sunday. Temperatures are set to remain cold over the forecast period, with the freezing level hovering around sea level.
Have a good Boxing day.
