With the Fire Festival taking place tonight, excitement around Nozawa Onsen has reached a boiling point. The men will be finishing the construction of the shrine by lunch, in time for the festivities to kick off at 7pm.
The excitement doesn’t stop there; We’re predicting some fantastic snow falls over the coming week. From Monday onwards a cold system will be dropping some snow for us. Snowfalls will be heaviest on the Wednesday, and gale winds will be blowing on Tuesday night. Freezing levels will be hovering below the village altitude so we should be getting some good dumps right down to the base of the mountain. This storm is still a couple of days away and could still shift. Let’s hope it does so in our favour!
Conditions up on the slopes today should be fairly nice, with some light snow refreshing all the pistes. It’ll be cold once again and there’s a chance of some snow in the afternoon.
