Weather; Isolated snow showers.
Its a real mixed bag in Nozawa Onsen this morning. We are experiencing isolated light snow showers, interspersed with patches of blue sky and sun. Temperatures are very cold; -11C at Yamabiko. Since the close of lifts yesterday we have had 10cm of snowfall on the upper mountain and 5cm across the lower reaches.
Those on the mountain yesterday really scored, especially during the afternoon when consistent moderate to heavy snow showers moved over the resort. The best area was the Yamabiko trees during times of low vis, and the groomed runs were nice during breaks in the cloud.
It definitely appeared that this current system was delayed by about six hours with the heaviest falls experienced during the afternoon, not the morning as forecast.
We expect isolated snow showers to continue today, increasing slightly overnight, then gradually receding over the coming days. At this time, a solid dump is possible on the night of new years day, although this forecast is subject to changes. Until then, light snow showers should continue on and off.
