Weather; Overcast
For the first day of the year we have overcast skies and no new snow to report. It seems that the system expected to arrive overnight is slightly delayed. Snow should start to fall later today and continue into tomorrow. Temperatures are relatively warm at the moment, but should cool quickly later today and the best skiing should be the groomed runs, with off piste being variable with a surface crust.
Yesterday was a nice day for the groomers and off piste up high. Crowds were better than expected with the longest lift lines being no more than a few minutes. There were a quite a few people in town to witness the spectacles of the new year in Nozawa Onsen.
Looking at the forecast ahead, we expect the next system to move through Friday/Sat delivering more snow before another stronger and cooler front moves across the region on Sunday.
