Snow falling in the forest on top of the mountain

Yesterday we got to the top of the mountain to find the trees covered in snow.  We found ourselves in that idealic Japanese forest.  Yamabiko was covered in cloud and fog while the sun shone in the village.

There were people having fun in the snow park testing out there jump skills.

The forecast is holding steady for the massive amount of incoming snow.   We’ve had a few cms of snow on the ground this morning, we should see the sun this afternoon again, then from Saturday night the snow should begin falling, peaking on Wednesday.

Have a great day everyone, stay safe up there and we’ll see you on the mountain.

Nozawa Snow Report Thursday 18th January 2018

The big chill is coming

Wax those boards and ready the shovels as we have some heavy snowfall predicted for early next week.  The temperatures will continually drop until they plummet on Tuesday.  With this temperature drop we should see light snow fall to bring us into the weekend.

The best conditions will be up at Yamabiko on top of the mountain.

Have a great day everyone, stay safe and we’ll see you on the mountain.

Snow falling on top of the mountain

Yesterday we woke up with a layer of fog around which later cleared to a sunny day.  Best conditions will be found up on the top runs today where it’s forecast for snow.  We should expect some light snow over the next few days and Monday night will hopefully start the week off right with some heavy snowfall.

Have a great day everyone, stay safe and we’ll see you on the mountain.

Wonderful festival last night

Sunny conditions on the mountain yesterday which led in to a wonderful Dosojin festival last night.  We have 20 cm expected tomorrow to fall throughout the day and evening followed by some light snow to finish the week.

Nozawa Onsen held the Dosojin or Fire festival last night which drew a massive crowd and was spectacular to witness.

Enjoy these blue bird days and join in as we snow-dance our way through the week.

Have a great day, stay safe and we’ll see you on the mountain.

Absolutely knee deep in powder

What a magic day we had yesterday here in Nozawa Onsen, with that 46cm of fresh powder, absolutely knee deep in the morning and it kept snowing until around midday. All over the mountain people where plowing through the snow and lots of shovelling in the village. Last night the building of the Shrine continued into the night ready for tonight main event. We woke up to a spectacular clear blue bird sky today, with an amazing pink and purple sunrise.   We should see snow begin to fall again on Tuesday evening and then continue into Wednesday.

Fire festival is happening tonight, check out the specific post for all the time info.

Have a great day up there, stay safe and we’ll see you on the mountain.
