Its a white Christmas in Nozawa Onsen this morning with 10-15cm falling across the mountain since last lifts yesterday. Combined with the totals received over the preceding hours, skiing conditions should be very nice indeed.
Currently, the weather is partly cloudy and should clear completely at some point during the afternoon. Winds are light at the summit. Top picks on the mountain today are the Yamabiko trees for off piste action, while the groomed runs such as Skyline for intermediate to advanced riders or Paradise for beginners are also in fine form.
Likewise, yesterday was another good day on the hill. The snow continued to fall throughout the day at light to moderate levels and crowds were kept thin with the cold and wind.
As suggested in the forecast yesterday, we are still expecting a decent dump of Japan powder beginning tomorrow night and persisting till at least Saturday afternoon. The fresh snow should be light and dry with the freezing line dropping to sea level.
From all at Nozawa Onsen we wish everyone a very merry Christmas. Enjoy your day.

We woke to a partly cloudy day in Nozawa Onsen this morning. Although shortly after breakfast the mist and clouds rolled in and we now have some light snow falling.
Early on the pistes should be firm and fast, softening with the fresh snow falling. The upper trees will be nicely topped up by this afternoon, however more snow is required to fill in most of the lower trees. Winds at the summit are moderate to strong.
The resort and its lodges are beginning to fill up and we expect a busy period between Christmas and New Years. That being said, the influx should disperse well across the resort areas with all but Kandahar Racecourse open.
Yesterday was a nice day on the slopes. Light snow fell briefly during the morning before the clouds parted and gave way to patches of brilliant sunshine. With light crowds, the groomed runs stayed smooth all day and there were still patches on unridden powder amongst the elusive open trees.
Looking at the forecast ahead we expect like snow showers to continue for the remainder of today before clearing later tonight. Christmas day should be perfect bluebird with light winds. The snow should once again set in on Boxing day night and continue until around the 28th. We expect a moderate amount to fall out of this system.

Its an overcast morning here in Nozawa Onsen and we are still experiencing the occasional light flurry. Light winds and minimal crowds will ensure a fun day up on the slopes. There are still a few hidden fresh lines on offer amongst the trees although good directional control is needed as there is still some brush exposed.
Yesterday was an excellent day in Nozawa Onsen. Even with the weekend influx of visitors it was easy to find some deep un-ridden stashes. The groomed runs were also in fine form with many of the mountains pistes making their season debut.
Light snows continued to fall for there remainder of the day yesterday, before gradually abating during the evening.
Later today we expect cloudy conditions to remain with isolated snow showers. There is even the possibility of some blue sky making an appearance this afternoon.
Looking further ahead the forecast looks promising for a moderate dump commencing Boxing Day night. Christmas day should be bluebird with light winds. Whereas snow showers are expected on Christmas eve.
Looks like snow has persisted here in Nozawa Onsen for about the past 24 hours. In total 45cm fell overnight adding to what fell throughout yesterday. Snowfall rates increased during the evening with heavier falls below localised thunderstorm activity. When we woke this morning and up until the current time (10am) moderate snows were continuing to fall.
The best skiing on offer today should be found on the higher reaches of the mountain where an excellent base has formed. The Yamabiko trees will be the best to take advantage of all the fresh powder on offer and the groomed runs will be silky smooth, perfect for a relaxing cruise around the mountain.
Today marks the day where almost all of the mountain has opened excluding only the Karasawa pistes. Perfect timing for those coming to Nozawa over the Christmas period.
The forecast suggests snowfalls with gradually decrease throughout the day before the weather clears briefly tomorrow. Looking further ahead we can expect further light snow showers on Tuesday. Another sizeable dump is looking possible for boxing day, next week.
