What a day yesterday in Nozawa Onsen. You could see many smiling faces all over the ski resort with knee deep powder even on some groomers. Heavy fall of snow in the morning gave way to a cloudless blue sky in the afternoon. Fantastic views from Yamabiko and Uenotaira. On top the temperatures remained cold through out the day and guaranteed wonderful snow conditions.
Today blue sky as far as you can see in Nozawa. As Temperatures are on the rise down in the village, still in the minus further up. Great conditions on and off the slopes. Sun bathing is definitely on the lunch menu here in Nozawa today. Make the most out of it and do not forget your sun cream.
Still looks that we get some fresh snow in tomorrow before the temperatures are on the rise again Thursday, Friday. But the snow won’t be far away with heavy snow fall on the forecast Saturday night.
Wonderful conditions yesterday. Beautiful tree up at Yamabiko. Pictures taken by Mike Neal. Cheers Mike.
Another perfect day in Nozawa Onsen with spectacular views...

New Snow: 20 cm Weather: Snowing
It looks like that we can not put our snow shovels away just yet here in Nozawa. What a suprise with over 20cm of fresh snow overnight. It was heavy snowing all morning and even down in the village big snow flakes were falling from the sky. Great conditions on and off the piste. Knee deep powder up top at Yamabiko and perfect conditions on the slopes with the sun out from just before lunch.
Yesterday was a bit of a mix. Visibility up top was limited but the slushy bottom runs were still good fun to ride. In the afternoon the sun came through before the snow front was rolling in.
Forecast looks awesome for the next few days. Blue sky tomorrow, before we get some more snow in on Wednesday to make things perfect . Good times at Nozawa Onsen.
Winter isn't over yet in Nozawa Onsen. Big flakes falling from the sky this morning.
Spontaneous artistic contribution infront of the Villa Nozawa. Good on ya Trent...

New Snow: 5 cm Weather: Snowing Lightly
After a few warm days it was great to see the village covered in a new blanket of snow this morning. Temperatures dropped and brought a nice top up of fresh snow up top. Constant changes on the weather front with the sun poking through every now and then. All in all not a bad day for late march. Quite a few people on the mountain with the border cross competition still going. You could see some spectacular falls yesterday on the racecourse.
The spring festival also continues today with free sake on offer so take it easy up there.
Yesterday was a bit of a mix with slushy spring conditions down at the bottom but still decent on piste up top. Visibility was pretty limited at times.
Snowing out the window at the moment and should continue for a day or two.
Not all the trees survive the Nozawa winter... Crushed tree infront of the Villa.

New Snow: 0 cm Weather; Overcast
Not a lot happening on the weather front at this stage with mostly cloudy skies and some patches of blue poking through.
Up top is looking fairly foggy and some snow is expected to roll in later today getting heaviest tonight.
Bit of a hive of activity today with the Spring Festival going on up at Yamabiko. The resort has buried some treasure in the 350cm base up there and up to the guests to find it.
Yesterday was a mixed bag with some rain below but big flakes were falling from the sky up top at one stage and created a bit of fresh to enjoy. Visibility was not the best with a shifting fog bank up and down the resort. But all in all a better day than was expected.
Snow is still forecast for the next few days and the freezing level is dropping down to as low as sea level just briefly. Then sunshine expected Tuesday, may be a good day to wheel out the BBQ. Have a great weekend and enjoy the festivities and snow.

Lots of snow expected over the next few days up top in Nozawa
Base up top: 370 cm Temperature; 2 Degrees
Base at bottom; 220 cm
New Snow: 0 cm Weather; Overcast
Fairly grey warm morning in Nozawa and as expected we are getting hit with some rain in the village, but the resort is reporting snow up top.
With the freezing level up pretty high will be a bit of a tale of two mountains for the next two days with rain down low but snow up higher. Until Saturday night when the freezing level will drop and snow is expected in the village too.
The forecast is now for heavy snow tomorrow up top, which is great to see. With the temps on the way back down should be some pretty good powder about.
Yesterday was not a bad day in the mountains. March is always a good time to strap on the skins and head off into the beautiful surrounding terrain. Better weather and still plenty of snow making for some fun tours. Yesterday a few of the gang headed North all the way down to nearby Sakae Village nice ski, great outdoor onsen and a mountain picnic always enjoyable.
Nice ride down to Sakae Mura takes longer to drive than ski!
