We have had so much snow in Nozawa this season they had to dig the lifts out just to keep them moving! April is still going to be good
Base up top: 380 cm Temperature; -5 Degrees

We woke up to a pretty bleak start to the day here in Nozawa with fog blanketing most of the resort and even some rain down low.
It is giving way now to some light snow down low and heavier up high. Visibility is pretty non-existent and it is more like an English ferry crossing up high at the moment. But there have been a few come back and say the snow quality is pretty nice up top. They have decided to hit an onsen and wait for better views tomorrow!
Down low is not as bad and if you are keen sure you could link a few turns together.
We should get a bit of sun tomorrow then a good dump from tomorrow night. All going to plan that should carry into Saturday then for the first time in a while I am seeing some sunshine on the menu for Nozawa. Kind of looking forward to it!
For anyone in Australia and thinking of shooting up to enjoy the bumper season we are having, Jetstar has just put out a 2 for 1 Sale to Japan
Appears to be mainly for the month of April, which is not a bad thing. With so much snow this year conditions should still be pretty good fun then. Traditionally it is Spring skiing with some sunny days and seriously private slopes. We are doing great deals on accom too so may be time to jump on the computer and then on a plane and come up to Nozawa!

Happy Valentines day from Nozawa Onsen. Today on the slopes at Hikage they are giving out free chocolate fondue so if you missed out head down there and drown your sorrows in chocolate.
On the weather front a pretty foggy day all over the resort and warmish weather, which is probably, responsible for the fog as the warm moist air blows over the snow. The riding conditions up high should still good with a bit of fresh falling after lifts closed yesterday.
The road clearers have been at work again yesterday and the sides of the roads just keep getting higher around the resort.
Drove down to Iiyama yesterday to do my once a season shop and was amazed by the size of the walls on the sides of the roads all the way down to Iiyama. In a usual season we would have a bit of snow down there but yesterday they were well overhead high.
There is a meeting of all the local ski resorts today too at nearby Hokuryu Resort. It is the little resort just as you come into Nozawa Onsen. Still have rope toes and cheap lift tickets with zero crowds worth a look if looking for something off the beaten track.
Reminder for anyone in town we have the Mizuo Sake tasting night happening tomorrow at Villa Nozawa from 7pm always a fun night.
Resort officials head off to nearby Hokuryu Resort for a meeting of surrounding resorts
After the blizzard type condition yesterday we woke to a beautiful Blue Bird day this morning in Nozawa. Feels like a different world with bright sunshine and light winds it is going to be one of those special days up on the mountain.
Yesterday was hard going but some terrific snow to be had for the brave. The 30m rail contest was pretty popular and a big congratulations to Alba from Switzerland who is 30 kg of rice richer!
The winds have switched to the south now and with it we are expecting a bit of a jump in temps for the next few days before dropping back to the minus level.
Looks like we should get a fair amount of snow in by the end of the week so enjoy the sun while it lasts
Blizzard type conditions hitting Nozawa today and we are getting pounded with snow again!
Base up top: 400 cm Temperature; -8 Degrees
Base at bottom; 290 cm
New Snow: 30 cm
Woke up to Blizzard like conditions this morning in Nozawa, again a bit unexpected. We were expecting light snow and even a bit of sun but it is wild and wooly out there now. Official reports are showing about 20cm has fallen but the measuring sticks are probably a bit out with all the wind. My windscreen is telling me it is about 30cm of fresh again.
Will be challenging but rewarding on the mountain and there should be plenty of fresh tracks on offer with the snow still falling heavy outside as I type.
Yesterday was belissimo on the slopes the snow gave way to glorious sunshine in the afternoon and with half a meter of fresh snow it was magic in places. A lot of the well-worn slopes did get tracked out and moguled up with the weekend crowd though. Down low too the snow was a little on the wet side as the day quickly warmed up.
But could not fault the conditions and the town was bustling last night with a few events on and plenty of happy skiers lining the main street.
I am a little shy at making any outlooks as the forecast has been under estimating the snow fall for a while now. However it looks although we may see a nice pattern of sun and snow coming over the next few days so happy times ahead.
Yesterday in comparison all the elements in Nozawa came together to perfection.
Matt Chamberlain tapping a tree on the way thru by Alison Szymik. This shot was taken a little while ago but think wil be similiar conditions up top today
Base up top: 395cm Temperature; -8 Degrees
Base at bottom; 295 cm
New Snow: 50 cm
Was not expecting that when went to bed last night. It was snowing lightly but has taken off and we have 50cm on the front door and should be even more up top.
Didn’t even see anyone at breakfast this morning with everyone racing out the door to get amongst the fresh snow. Feels like a while since we have had to dig out the cars in the morning and was beautiful to see!
Yesterday was a terrific day too with reports of about 20cm of fresh up top. But today should be deeper and the powder hounds hunger should be well catered for out there. Quite a bit of movement around town this morning so may have to share a few of the lines with the weekend crowd.
Looks like Uenotaira around the middle section received the most with the base there now over the 4 Meter mark at 410cm. Still big flakes floating down out there at the moment so get up there and make the most of the great conditions.
The outlook is for light snow and even a bit of sun but who knows may get another unscheduled dump! Anything is possible in the mountains so take care on the slopes and the roads and have a great weekend.
Always know we have had a good night on the snow front in Nozawa Onsen when your car grows 2 feet taller!
