View from Villa Nozawa, Togari Ski Resort great by night
Base up top: 280 cm Temperature; -3 Degrees
Base at bottom; 185 cm
New Snow: 2 cm
For the first time in a while we saw a few stars in Nozawa last night. It was a full moon too so with all the white snow everything looked really bright, was pretty nice.
Woke up this morning thinking we were in for some sun but it was still snowing lightly. Has fined up a bit now and should be a nice day on the slopes. Yesterday was great conditions again but one of our busier days so far with even a few lift lines appearing! Some of the guys decided to head to near by Togari Ski Resort today in search of some untracked goodness.
Togari is a great little hill just 20 minutes from here with some fun terrain and have night skiing most nights. The elevation is not much different to Nozawa Village so is not so good on the shoulder season but great this time of year. There is a daily shuttle from Nozawa Onsen too to Togari Onsen ski resort and on to Madarao. Only 800 Yen return and if you are here for a long time well worth a day trip. Just ask us for details
Looking like may be a bluebird day tomorrow so will be nice on the slopes and give us a chance to clean up the snow in the village ready for the next arrival on Tuesday night!
Kids learn to ski and shovel snow at an early age in Nozawa. Yuta aged 4 going hard.
New this season a fireplace in Lodge Nagano great place to gather in the evenings and share a beer or a hot chocolate!
Base up top: 300 cm Temperature; -8 Degrees
Base at bottom; 200 cm
New Snow: 30 cm
Wooo! We have dived into the 300cm mark in Nozawa Onsen officially today. Happened a little quicker than I thought as yet again last night we received close to 30cm on the slopes!
It seems like a given to wake up with a solid dump of new snow on the doorstep. Checked back a few years for base at around this time and the average has been about 190cm so we are well above that now. 2010 we were at similar levels and in 2006 we had a whopping 475cm!
Today is relatively clear compared to the past few days, but still snowing! Just lightly in the village at the moment but snow clouds are still hovering.
Yesterday on the mountain was another great day and I am running out of superlatives to describe it. 30cm of fresh and it snowed pretty heavy most of the day.
We should be in for snow showers over the next few days then another good dump starting Tuesday night. The snow is deep so choose your line carefully and take a big breath!
We did alot of renovations over the off season on both Lodge Nagano and Villa Nozawa. There has been so much snow to report have not had a chance to show you much of what has been done. Many repeat customers have been very impressed with the changes. Especillay the Fire Places in both lodges, has made the lodges even cosier and a great place to get together at the end of the day and share a drink and a chat about the adventures on the slopes. Will share a few photos with you over the coming days while we have a break in the snow!
The new breakfast bar at Lodge Nagano wil get you fuelled and up the slopes faster!
What do you do when your snow clearing machine is buried in snow? Welcome to Nozawa
Base up top: 290 cm Temperature; -7 Degrees
Base at bottom; 195 cm
New Snow: 37 cm
Snowed again in Nozawa for most of the night depositing another Magic Foot of fresh powder on the slopes for this morning. Still snowing in the village now and about another 10cm has accumulated since this morning.
Conditions on the mountain are nothing short of sublime for the powder hungry. A few people have already rolled down the hill and have tales of straight lining it down slopes in waist deep powder and plenty of face shots.
For a long weekend crowds are not too bad either. The sun is doing its best to make an appearance but losing the battle with the snow. Asked my neighbour when he thought it may stop, he said Spring!
Villa Nozawa by night covered in 60cm of fresh snow
Base up top: 275 cm Temperature; -2 Degrees
Base at bottom; 190 cm
New Snow: 20 cm
Apologies for the late snow report, I was not up getting mind blowing powder runs unfortunately. Instead was taking advantage of the break in the snow to clear our roof, still thrilling waist deep powder but nowhere near as much fun! This is the second time this season have been up on the roof and we are not even 1 month into it! In a normal season I would maybe only need to do it once so shows how much snow we have had this year. Have to get a dump truck to get all the snow taken away. Imagine if we could deliver it to a beach somewhere on the planet and build a big kicker into the ocean, which would be cool!
The sun blessed us with its presence this morning and reports are showing we had a further 20cm of fresh since the lifts closed yesterday so along with the 60cm we recived up until then spells awesome conditions on the mountain. Have not seen anyone come back down yet so that is a good sign of contentment.
Yesterday was blizzard type conditions on the slopes at times with strong winds and snow falling sideways. Nozawa was feeling the full brunt of winter.
The outlook believe it or not is for more moderate snowfall tonight and should ease a bit into the weekend for some pretty nice conditions for the coming long weekend. Hope to see you up here enjoying it.
Nozawa Onsen was looking more like a small Alaskan Village yesterday with temps to match
Has not stopped snowing in Nozawa now for 24 Hours. The magic foot we mentioned yesterday has doubled with 60cm falling in that time. We are going to have to start calling it the magic 2 foot! Will be more amazing deep powder conditions for the brave today.
It is blizzard conditions outside at the moment and just heard they have temporarily closed the Nagasaka Gondola due to high winds. The Hikage is operating so can still make your way to the top for fresh tracks.
Yesterday was dumping all day and most runs groomed or otherwise were powder runs by lunchtime. Like today visibility was not great but as long as you had good gear could make the most of what Mother Nature was serving up.
Snow is set to continue throughout today then tomorrow should be something special with Sunshine expected in the morning followed by more snow from the afternoon.
After that looks like we may get a bit of a break in the snow before a heavy dump again next week. Will hopefully give us a chance to clear some of this snow and enjoy the amazing conditions! The view from my house has now well and truly been replaced by a large wall of white and is quickly turning into an igloo!
All this base is a good thing and means we should be in for a long season. Although it is still early days with almost a 300cm base now I would expect we should have nice top to bottom conditions right thru to the end of March.
We still have good availability for March at this stage and will be a fun month with quite a lot of people taking up our ‘Live the Dream’ 30 Day offer over March and April. Works out as little as just 4000 Yen or $50 a day for accom, lift pass and breakfast! Also very little crowds and a whole lot of fun!
Check out some of our specials here and drop us an email if keen to join us for a magic March in Nozawa Onsen.
