Busy Times in Nozawa

Weekend Crowd Nozawa Onsen

Has been snowing lightly all morning here in Nozawa.

But not enough to warrant getting out the shovel as yet.

Long lines to get on to the lifts this morning.

Was a few hundred meters out the door of Nagasaka Gondola and up the road.

Lengths reminiscent of the early 90’s levels. Although not great for everyone hitting the slopes it is good for the resort to see.

Yesterday was a lot quieter on the slopes and snow was pretty good but was getting tracked out early.

Still waiting on a decent dump tonight but the forecast has come back a little. Monday night is also showing a good dump on the radar now.

Jazz Festival on from 7pm at Arena and also Iiyama just below Nozawa is having a snow festival today and tomorrow well worth checking out

National Holiday Buzz in Nozawa Onsen

by Mark on February 11, 2011

New Snow ; 0cm

Base at top ;  285cm

The Long weekend has arrived and with it the weekend buzz.

Good vibe around town with people settling in for the weekend.

Started snowing about 1 hour ago and should be the start of this new front that will get heavier with a large dump expected tomorrow night.

Yesterday was an exceptional day on the Mountain with some people calling it the best day of the season!

There was about 30cm of fresh snow in places and not many people around so made for some awesome conditions.

The outlook is for a sunny change from Monday on through the week with a few small falls in between.

Anyway enjoy the National Holiday today and a great weekend in Nozawa Onsen

Stealth Dump hits Nozawa

The Onsens in Nozawa look even prettier with a coat of Icing by Mark Jobson

New Snow; 25cm

Base at top ; 290cm

Feels like it has been a little while now since I have said it but overnight we have come close again to the Magic Foot.
The official is saying we have had 25cm and my car is showing at least that.
Still snowing lightly outside at the moment and forecast to continue lightly throughout the day.
The hungry powder hounds were all up early and hitting the slopes.

Should be an awesome day with not much of a crowd as yet before the National Holiday tomorrow.
Yesterday was not a bad day up top with varying visibility but the snow was nice under foot.
The outlook is for some sunshine tomorrow and then the dump on Saturday so looking like a great long weekend to be in Nozawa.

Will be quite a few events on up here including the Jazz Festival at Arena on the evening of the 12th and the Long Rail Challenge on Sunday the 13th from 9am. With the winner taking home a 30kg bag of rice. That’s Food for thought!
We are pretty much fully booked for this weekend but March is still looking good and with all the snow we have had so far the base should hold nicely through March then into some good spring conditions ahead.
Jetstar has a sale on 2 for 1 to Japan for April so a good chance to enjoy Nozawa and even check out teh Cherry Blossoms.

Just a bit of a dusting in Nozawa

by Mark on February 9, 2011

Dropping down Skyline Nozawa Onsen Rice Fields await

We were expecting a decent fall overnight but only got a dusting.

Probably a bit more up top.

Was snowing still lightly this morning but the sun is doing its best to come out now.

Yesterday was a spectacular day on the hill with good snow quality and lots of sun.

Views were perfect and could see all the way to the Japan Sea.

There were a few people around the place so looks like the long weekend crowd is filtering in early.

The Forecast is showing more light snow but it is yet to eventuate.

The weekend dump still looking promising.

Maruji Lodge Nozawa Onsen

Mukobayashi Slope above Lodge Nagano

New Snow 5cm

Base at top 270cm

It’s a beautiful day
Was snowing after lifts closed for a little while yesterday so should be a nice dusting on offer this morning.
Along with the blue bird weather should make for a perfect day on the slopes.

Yesterday the snow just kept falling most of the day and there were some nice little powder sections to be had even though the visibility was not the best.

Should continue fine for the rest of the day them some snow again tomorrow.
Friday and Saturday are still looking like a major dump so should be a good long weekend in the Mountains

One of our neighbours is Tomii san owner of Maruji Lodge. He is a 2 times Olympian Competing in the downhill events in the 70’s along with being National Champion for many years. A well respected member of the community and a great guy, he also runs a beautiful Lodge called Maruji and we happily introduce people there when we are full.

Tomii san Olympian and Maruji Lodge Owner as well as being a nice guy

Last year he put in a new Fire Place and a very cool chill out room, perfect place for a few cold beers and tall stories after a day on the slopes.
