We’ve been seeing a lot of sunshine lately in Nozawa. A number of people are heading up in t-shirts, sunnies, and a coating of sunscreen. Not a bad way to spend the day! The slopes are starting to get fairly slushy right up to the top though they’re still running fast, and the best part? There’s hardly anyone out at this time of the season. We nearly had Yamabiko all to ourselves.

Temperatures will reach 5°C up top today, it’s going to be a warm one again with clouds clearing later in the day. Winds will be very mild for the next seven days, hovering at around 10km/h for the most part. Temperatures will be fluctuating throughout the week though we won’t see the mercury dropping below zero anytime soon. We’ve got one last bluebird day tomorrow before some rain bearing clouds move in on Sunday with the chance of light snow up top as the freezing level drops lower down the mountain. Get up there and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts!

We’ve been blessed with some beautiful spring weather this week, with a similar pattern for most of the week. Light winds, mild temperatures, and warm sunshine. Although this has taken its toll on the snowpack, we’re loving it (and not just because it means we don’t have to shovel snow!). Being able to head up the observatory in a t shirt, sit out in the sun to eat lunch and keep the bubbles up on the chair are a few of our favourite things about spring. if

We’re really hoping for one last late season dump, but looking at the forecast is making us doubtful unfortunately. The next seven days is looking pretty warm, with one cooler night on Monday and the possibility of light snow up top. Light rain is predicted on Sunday and Monday. Aside from that we are expecting winds to pick up a little from Sunday through until Tuesday before calming back down.

Sunny again today — clouds this evening

With blue skies all around, it’s looking like another beautiful day up in Nozawa today. Conditions should be fairly similar to yesterday, with the pistes being firm in the morning and becoming softer throughout the day. Down below the Gondola Station saw fairly sticky snow unfortunately, though up top at Yamabiko the pistes were fast all day long. The terrain park has had a bit of work done to it with a new jump built and the other ones reshaped. You’re best off getting there early this morning to avoid the sticky snow that may develop later in the day.

The rest of the week is looking warm and sunny once again. Temperatures are set to rise some more becoming warmest on Saturday with a top of 7°C. This could be a good day to take a walk out to the nearby lake… and possibly go for a swim for the brave! Following the warm days, temperatures should drop back to zero on Sunday, with a possible chance of snow. Let’s keep our fingers crossed while we enjoy the sunshine!

This will be our third sunny day in a row, and while the sun can sometimes be harsh on the snowpack, The compromise is getting to riding in a t-shirt. There’s nothing like it. The temperature has only just exceeded 0°C up top today, so the snow should still be fairly nice up there for the day. Lower down on the hill the pistes may become slushy as the day progresses. The cover is still good across most of the mountain; it’s just the lower few hundred meters that have become patchy which is fairly common for this time of year.

The forecast is looking like it’ll stay fairly warm for the rest of the week with plenty of sunny days. Winds will be mild for the most part and it’s not looking like we’ll see any rain for a while which we’re thankful for. There is a possible chance of light snowfall but given the warm temperatures this may not eventuate. We’ve got our fingers crossed for some fresh snow but regardless of whether it comes or not, we’re not going to let it stop us from getting our turns in!

It’s going to be another beautiful day of sunshine and t shirt weather in Nozawa today. The sun is shining, the pistes are groomed, the park is back open and the weekend crowds have departed! It seemed that many folk from Nagano  and Tokyo got word of the blue skies and great snow yesterday and made a day trip up to us in Nozawa. The pistes should be quiet today and the chairlifts without queues. The mercury should reach 2°C down at Uenotaira station, while up the top it’s still sitting below zero at -2°C.

The week ahead is looking fairly warm — temperatures up top are set to climb over the week, becoming warmest on Saturday before dropping back below zero. The majority of the week will see some sun, whilst rain is expected for the end of the week. Spring weather is here so be sure to use sunscreen and most of all enjoy the blue skies!
