Weather: snowy up to 1400m, clear up at Yamabiko. Very mild wind.
Light snow falling lower down in Nozawa, clear up top!
Light snow has been falling over Nozawa since the early hours of the morning. It’s looking like it could be a beautiful day here. Judging from the webcams, it looks as though the clouds are hovering just below 1400m, and above that at Yamabiko the skies are clear. The best snow can probably be found at Uenotaira and lower down. The usual weekend visitors should all be arriving this morning, so it’l be slightly busier than usual. If bigger crowds aren’t your thing then give night skiing a go. The Nagasaka slope is open until 8pm and usually attracts only a handful of skiers and boarders so you’ll almost have the run to yourself.
It looks as though we’ll be getting light snowfalls on and off throughout the next few days, being heaviest on Sunday night. Temperatures will be between -5 and -8 over the next few days before warming up in the middle of next week. Winds will be calm throughout the week with a bluebird day lined up for Wednesday.
Weather:cloudy, light snow. Very mild winds and fairly cold temperatures.
Blue skies were out yesterday over Nozawa. Temperatures were fairly cool though the sun and lack of wind made it a beautiful day. There were some nice and fast runs to be had on the mountain, one of our favourites being Paradise. The snowpack seemed to be best around there though Yamabiko was great earlier in the morning. Tell us what your favourite run is in Nozawa!
With clouds hovering over Nozawa and light snow falling, it’s looking as though we could be in for some more snowfall to continue throughout the day. The Freezing level is at a few hundred meters below the village altitude so fresh flakes should keep falling right down to the village. The next few days are looking good; we should be getting a few more light snowfalls over the next couple of days, with some sun poking through here and there before temperatures gradually warm up from mid next week.
Firstly, we’d like to say a huge congratulations to Mia and Jeremy on their marriage which took place yesterday on our mountain! They certainly picked the right day for it. Heavy snow was falling throughout the whole day but that didn’t stop them one bit. We wish you the very best for the future and hope to see you in Nozawa again!
Now, onto the snow report.
Base at top: 140cm
Temp at Top: -8 Degrees
Base at Uenotaira: 70cm
New Snow since close: 5 cm
Weather:cloudy with possible snow. Very mild winds and fairly cold temperatures.
With a few centimetres of fresh on the ground, we’re happy to say that winter is back in action. Light snow flurries should be falling on and off throughout the day, possibly becoming heavier in the afternoon. Right now the skies are looking fairly cloudy though visibility is good. Temperatures are nice and cold so the snow that fell yesterday should still be nice and fresh. The best snow can be found up top, although the pistes were nice and fast right down to the village yesterday.
Temperatures should stay cold until the end of the week, before gradually warming up throughout next week. We’re expecting some light snow over these coming colder days, hopefully keeping the pistes nice and fresh. Winds will stay very mild throughout the week so those cold chairlift rides won’t be an issue!
Weather: snowing! Very mild winds and fairly cold temperatures.
Necessity is the mother of invention.
Light snow has been coming down overnight up the top of Nozawa. What begun as light rain in the late afternoon yesterday has now turned to beautiful snowflakes thanks to a sudden drop in the temperature. We’ve just started seeing light sleet turn into fluffy snowflakes down in the village. After quite a few spring days with temperatures rising well above zero, we’re more than excited to see winter make its return. So far, we’ve got a few centimetres of fresh snow up the top.The forecast has been upgraded and we could see up to 20cm of fresh up the top today. It looks as though this could continue throughout the rest of the day and possibly into tomorrow.
Right now temperatures are sitting at around -4°C up top and the mercury is continually dropping. Temperatures should reach lows of -9°C up top. Higher up will be getting the best snow coverage so that’s probably the place to go, considering that wind won’t be an issue either.
Today will mark the end to this warm spring spell that we’ve experienced over the last few days. Temperatures have begun dropping back down, nearly hitting zero today. We’ve got one last day of sunshine to enjoy before clouds begin to move in by evening. It’s looking as though temperatures should keep dropping as snow starts falling up top tonight reaching the village soon after as the freezing level drops, continuing right through until Thursday night.
With temperatures still above zero, the best spots today will be higher up on the hill. Lower down the snow is pretty soft though up top you might have more luck finding faster runs. It should be fairly quiet up there today with no weekend or holiday crowds. Things are looking great for the coming week here at Nozawa. We’ve started our snow dance. Have you?
