Weather: overcast; snow expected throughout the day
Did someone say snowball fight?
After a fairly warm spell yesterday where temperatures reached 3° Celsius, We’re back to what we like to see. The mercury has dropped down to -8 ° Celsius at the top. We’re expecting some snow today and it should be falling across almost the whole mountain. The freezing level is sitting just above the village altitude though this will drop across the day and we should see close to 10cm up the top and slightly less down in the village. Enough to refresh the pistes and keep us sliding fast on the slopes.
Monday should see winds easing with skies still overcast. Tuesday’s looking like winds will increase as a moderate system forms across Nozawa. The rest of the week is looking fairly good with temperatures staying well below zero at high elevation and snow forecast for a couple of days throughout the week.
Weather: Cloudy. Possible rain and snow in the afternoon/evening
Last week was fantastic. We saw a big dump of snow come through on Wednesday which left us plenty of great snow for Thursday and Friday. The snowpack held much better at higher altitudes due to warmer temperatures below Mid-station. Unfortunately we’ll be seeing warm temperatures again today with possible rain forecast for the mountain. The forecast still mentions some snow up the top so hopefully this comes through and leaves us with a few centimetres of fresh snow to keep our pistes fast and smooth.
Moderate winds will be increasing today and tomorrow, reaching 45km/h before settling back down for most of the coming week. We’ll be seeing snow showers on Sunday and Monday, before expected heavy snowfall on Tuesday night. Snow is predicted to fall fairly consistently over the coming week so we should see our base gaining more and more snow through the rest of February.
Weather: Bluebird day, mild temperatures and light westerly winds.
A beautiful end to a beautiful day
What a beautiful day yesterday was. We saw some of the best conditions we’ve had all season with fast and fresh snow on the slopes throughout the day and fresh tracks to be found for those who went looking. The temperatures warmed up in the afternoon before cooling right down again overnight. They’re warming up again over the course of the day and should be hovering at around -3°C before peaking above zero tomorrow.
There’s a possible chance of some rain tomorrow, though the forecast is saying both rain and snow so at this stage it looks like it could go either way. In any case, it should cool down during the night and snow should begin falling on Sunday. More snow is predicted for mid week so it’s looking like a fairly good week ahead.
Weather: Bluebird day, mild temperatures and no wind.
Heavy snow began falling early yesterday morning and it didn’t stop until late into last night. the temperatures were cold and snowflakes were light and fluffy. We saw close to 50cm covering some parts of the mountain and just under 40cm in the lower areas. There were fresh tracks to be found all day long across the resort and plenty of people hidden behind sprays of powder; What Japan’s mountains are famous for.
Today’s skies are clear. Not a cloud to be seen and it should stay this way! Just what we love afterbig dump. Temperatures will be fairly mild, sitting at around -5°C up the top and around 0°C at the base. There is practically no wind today and tomorrow should be the same before clouds arrive in time for the weekend with a chance of some more snow. Temperatures should drop back down after the weekend with more heavy snow forecast.
Enjoy the awesome conditions today and stay safe up there. Hope you all get some fresh tracks!
Weather: Fairly cold & Cloudy, snow is dumping on us. Moderate winds.
What a beautiful day yesterday turned out to be. Blue skies shone over the mountain throughout the morning and carried on through all afternoon. Just as the resort started to close for the day, dark clouds could be seen moving closer. They’re still hovering above us and snow has just begun to fall with heavier snowfall coming later in the afternoon. If all goes to plan we should be seeing close to 30cm covering the mountain. Temperatures are fairly cold; -4°C in the village and -11°C up the top, so freezing level is right down to sea level and the snowflakes should be light and fluffy, just how we like them.
There’s going to be another short spike in temperature on Thursday; before snow begins falling over the weekend. Later into next week we will likely see another system moving over Nozawa bringing more snow to our pistes!
