Snow clouds moving in
What we thought would be a snowy day yesterday, turned out to be a fairly mild day with some occasional cloud. With our base reading on the rise, things are only looking better for us with heavy snow forecast to fall throughout the day. The clouds have already laid down 5cm of fresh up the top and we’re just starting to see it accumulate down here in the village.
The skies are looking promising, with around 30cm still forecast to come down during the day. Visibility won’t be too great up on the mountain with fog clouds, though that must be the trade off for some good snow.
Tomorrow is looking good too, with snow showers forecast for some of the day. Hopefully this means that the sun might break through and give us, once again, some blue skies for an awesome powder day!
Night Skiing is on tonight until 8pm so keep your boots on for some more skiing

Weather: Light snow and light winds all day
On piste conditions were fantastic yesterday. After a light covering of snow from Wednesday, the slopes were nothing but fast and smooth, and fairly empty too! The sun was out for the whole day, though temperatures were cold keeping the snowpack nice and fresh.
It’s currently snowing very lightly down in the village and we’re expecting a couple of centimetres up the top today. Enough to keep the underfoot conditions nice and to keep the trees looking pretty. Winds will be mild today and tomorrow, increasing on Saturday night/Sunday morning.
We’re excited to see that our forecast for the weekend has been upgraded, and hopefully it stays that way. At this stage, we’re looking at 30+ cm to fall on Saturday, becoming heaviest on Saturday night. Sunday should be an awesome powder day! Snow should continue to fall throughout the weekend before the system clears on Monday and brings us back the sun.

Nozawa showed us its magic yesterday with some fresh snow on the ground and the trees all glistening in a layer of white snow. It was a beautiful day up there. Our base is creeping up slowly, currently reading 165cm at the top.
With some fresh snow around the resort from the last few days, today is going to be a cracker of a day up on the mountain. The pistes should be smooth and fast, with the snowpack holding well thanks to the low temperatures. We should see temperatures at around the -7°C mark today; fairly crisp but with little winds and the sun out it should be beautiful.
Temperatures will be falling to around -12°C over the weekend as more snow comes on its way. We should be seeing light snow beginning to fall tonight, continuing through to the weekend and becoming heavy throughout Saturday.

We were expecting a couple of centimetres of snow in the last 24 hours, but we were pleasantly surprised to find that 15cm had landed on our slopes. It’s not exactly Japow’s usual deep deep snow, but any snow is better than none. The groomers should be nice and fast today and hopefully less crusty than yesterday. If you look hard enough you’re likely to find some decent powder stashes that are still nice and fluffy from the last few days’ accumulation.
Today’s looking fairly similar to yesterday, with light snow falling across the mountain and slightly milder winds. We should see our base increasing over the next few days with snow forecast to come our way tomorrow night and all of Friday, and then some good powder falling on Saturday night.

There are some big snowflakes falling on Nozawa right now. They’re nice and fluffy, and it almost looks like they’re falling in slow motion. Though today’s snowfall won’t be a big dump, we’ll still be getting a nice top up for the resort. We should see snow falling throughout the day getting slightly heavier in the afternoon. Winds have picked up a little bit so the windchill factor is down to -20 degrees. Stay warm up there! We’re loving these colder temperatures… the snow’s staying fairly fresh and the groomers are still nice and fast — no slushy snow!
It looks like we’ll be getting a similar snowfall tomorrow with calmer winds, and then a heavy dump in time for the weekend. We can’t say exactly how this will play out, but at least we know there’ll be some snow on its way. Fingers crossed it goes in our favour!
