After a nice lot of snow fell on Friday night, the weekend was set to be a good one. We were spoilt with light clouds and calm skies on Saturday, followed by blue skies all of Sunday. We had some great powder riding on Saturday morning with a few lesser known sections still untracked on Sunday. The low temperatures kept the snow fresh for the whole weekend.
Clouds began forming above Nozawa overnight and now we’ve got light snow falling across the mountain. This should continue until the afternoon, keeping the pistes nice and fresh. Temperatures will be around the -10 mark today and winds will be mild, so there should be some great skiing across the whole mountain. West to North-Westerly winds will pick up a bit tomorrow, which might make some of the higher altitude runs quite cold, but nothing too serious. We’re looking forward to Friday; there’s a large lot of snow predicted to fall so we’ll see how that turns out!

It’s becoming a recurring trend in Nozawa for snow to dump overnight, with skies clearing the following day. Yesterday we woke up to just over 20cm of fresh snow with the sun breaking through some of the clouds by nine in the morning. Our base is currently at 155cm, quite a bit less than usual for this time of year unfortunately, although there is still loads of fun to be had out there as you can see from the photo.
We received a couple more centimetres early today just to refresh the pistes, with the chance of some more snow falling later on. There should be light snow falling tomorrow too; enough to keep the slopes fast and soft. Temperatures have dropped back to what we like to see. We’re looking at about -8 degrees for the day with mild winds. Enjoy the snow today and keep an eye out for Billabong pro snowboarder Tadashi Fuse who may be around the resort today!

Yesterday’s odd conditions, including some fairly wet snow and even a spur of rain, got us all a bit worried. However that was soon all eased after the snow started to fall heavily again in the afternoon and all night long. We received a few centimeters throughout the day yesterday and twenty centimetres since the closing of the lifts yesterday. There’s some good powder to be found up there!
All the powderhounds’ boards are waiting in the line for the gondola, with everyone excited for first tracks. Temperatures are dropping back down today, sitting at around -6° Celsius. Light snow will continue to fall before easing up later, and westerly winds will be mild, with most areas of the mountain well protected.
We advise you to take precautions if heading into the backcountry and never go alone, There isn’t enough snow yet for it to be safe territory. There are tried and tested ways to mitigate any incidents and make it an enjoyable experience when there is enough snow!

It’s recently begun snowing early this morning in Nozawa. Just what we need after three fantastic bluebird days in a row. The past few days have been gorgeous. With plenty of fresh snow on piste to begin with from the previous dump, we had fresh and fast snow throughout the week with mild temperatures, no wind, and blue skies. What a dream! It was just yesterday that the conditions were becoming a bit slushy so we’re glad to see that another lot of good snow is on the way.
We’re expecting about 30cm to fall throughout the day, with snow being heaviest during the night. Temperatures are still going to be fairly mild; down in the village we may unfortunately see some of the fresh snow softening, although we likely won’t get a glimpse of the sun for a couple of days so hopefully that keeps the snow nice and fresh. Up the top we should have no problems and there should be fresh snow for all of the weekend. Once we’ve carved up all this snow, there’ll be more coming on monday!

Weather: Fairly sunny for now, possible snow this afternoon
Heading home after last lifts on a bluebird day? priceless.
After two bluebird days in Nozawa, the sun is still shining brightly upon our little part of the globe for a third day. There may be some cloud forming later during the day, with a likely chance of snow beginning to fall by the afternoon. For the morning, conditions are a little slushy with the sun and mild temperatures taking their toll on the snowpack, though make no mistake, on piste conditions are still great.
Once this evening’s snow starts dropping, We’re expecting to see it continue throughout the weekend, with the heaviest dump on Friday night. It’s exciting to see that our forecast has been boosted and let’s hope it stays that way.
Temperatures will be dropping down again by the weekend and should stay low for all of next week. There are plenty of small snowfalls expected in the coming week so our base should keep building up gradually.
