Weather; Sunny at times, some snow showers higher up
The great snow we received over the weekend stayed nice and fresh throughout yesterday’s bluebird day, with some decent powder still to be found. We’re hoping it stays just as fresh today and that the pistes will be nice and fast. In any case, it should be a cracker of a day again today.
Temperatures on the mountain will be mild, sitting just below zero. Mild Easterly winds should be hardly noticeable, particularly in the more protected areas of the mountain. The sun will be shining at times during the day though there may be some light snow showers.
If you’re going to be here over the weekend and onwards, you’ll be excited to know that there is a good chance of some decent snowfalls from Thursday onwards. It won’t be very busy today and almost all of the mountain is open so get out there!
Our mountain was blessed with heavy snow all of yesterday morning, bringing our base up to 150cm and giving us a good 25cm of fresh powder to play with all day long. The skies cleared and left us with beautiful sunshine all afternoon.
The blue skies are here once again today, with temperatures sitting at a warmer -6 degrees and winds being practically nonexistent. Unfortunately there won’t be snow falling for a couple of days, but we’re hoping that the snowpack stays fresh and fast throughout these sunny few days. Looking ahead to next weekend, it looks like there will be some snow coming our way. We’re hoping the odds are in favour as the system makes it way to Nozawa Onsen.
Happy Australia Day to all our Aussie folk, and to everyone else, Do join in the celebrations!
The snow was dumping yesterday. There were fresh tracks to be found all day with a good lot of snow accumulating across the whole mountain. All the lifts were open, and there was a brief hour long period of sunshine in the middle of the day. This surprised us all but meant we could all make the most of some of the fresh morning powder. Snow started falling again in the afternoon, this time heavier and fluffier. We were expecting a lot more snow to come overnight but that was downgraded and we ended up with about 7cm which is still a nice top up for the mountain.
Today’s looking like it’ll keep snowing through the morning and ease up in the afternoon to make way for some blue skies and warmer temperatures tomorrow. Temperatures will be cold again today, and the winds will still be blowing, so the more sheltered areas should have better snowpack.
We’re all excited about the good snowfall we’ve been getting here and we hope it’s an indication of a good season ahead!
Base at top: 140 cm
Temp at Top; -13 Degrees
Base at Uenotaira 115 cm
New Snow since close: 10 cm
Weather; Cloudy, heaving snow beginning soon
The morning fog cleared as the lifts started turning yesterday, and the blue skies stuck around for a large part of the day. The snow conditions on piste were great with the snowpack staying soft and fast. The halfpipe was opened yesterday, which quickly became popular. We also turned on the lights on the Nagasaka slope for our first night skiing session, which was great fun and not busy at all. This should be taking place each Saturday.
Now, onto today’s exciting forecast! We’ve already received 10cm overnight up top and we’re expecting more heavy snow to begin falling soon and to continue throughout the day. We’re looking at a dump of just over 30 centimetres across the day so there’ll be a nice lot of powder accumulating! Temperatures are low today, hovering at around -15° Celsius, This could be the coldest day of the season so far. Moderate winds will bring the windchill down to -27° Celsius so layer up!

Yesterday up on the slopes was great, fresh snow on the groomers, some little pockets of powder to still be found, and some more snow to top it off. We saw moderate snow throughout the day, bringing us another 10cm. Snow is falling lightly now in the village and will continue through the day. Temperatures at the top will be hovering at around -10 degrees, with mild winds so the windchill factor isn’t too bad.
This season has been slower and lighter than most, and the forecast for a big dump tonight and tomorrow has unfortunately been downgraded, though we will still be getting a nice amount of snow. At this stage it looks like we’ll have a fresh 20cm by Sunday night. Looking further ahead, The clouds will soon be leaving us for the sun to make an appearance next week. Temperatures will be warming up a bit for a couple of days before some more snow later in the week.
