Great start to the year in Nozawa Onsen with 20cm of Fresh snow being delivered

Wishes coming true in Nozawa for the first day of the year
With over 20cm of fresh snow dropping on the resort over night looks like those that went to the temple this morning have seen their wishes come true! We have also hit the 100cm mark for base today in Nozawa, a bit less than past years for this time but a move in the right direction.
Still snowing hard and temps nice and cold so should be a great day for all those not nursing too much New Years cheer!
A big thank you to all the guests that have come or are coming to visit us in Nozawa Onsen. We look forward to welcoming you in 2016

Base at top:  90 cm

Temp at Top; -9 Degrees

Base at Uenotaira  80 cm

New Snow since close: 5 cm

Weather; Snowy! possible sun in the afternoon

Yesterday we saw snow falling until early afternoon before the sun started to peek through the clouds. The conditions are improving and there are some great runs out there. Others are still a bit icy and exposed however we’re hoping that all changes soon.

The base is now at 90cm and tonight could be the night we break the one meter mark. We should be waking up to a fresh 17cm across the whole mountain. Looking into the future there isn’t a whole lot of snow predicted for the first few days of the New Year but we should be getting some smaller accumulations throughout the week.

Celebrations for tonight include Traditional Japanese New Year blessings at the Nozawa Onsen Shrine, or night skiing just next to the base of Nagasaka Gondola with free sake or mulled wine.

A big thanks to all the staff, guests, and locals who have made 2015 a successful year at Nozawa Onsen, and here’s to a great year ahead!

The snow is still falling in Nozawa Onsen

Yesterday was an epic day out on the slopes. We received 35cm of fresh snow followed by blue skies from the late morning onwards. Everyone was out to get first tracks but even by late afternoon there were still some awesome lines to be found.
This morning we woke up to be rewarded with more of the good stuff. Snow has been dropping from the sky for the past few hours this morning and we’re currently sitting on 5cm of the fresh stuff. Lifts and gondolas will be opening 30 minutes earlier than usual today, tomorrow, January 2nd and january 3rd during the busy period of Japanese school holidays.

Unfortunately the whole resort isn’t yet open, but more runs are opening each day with this new snow falling. There will be a smaller dump coming in tomorrow afternoon too hopefully, so best to keep the powder skis handy!

One great day followed by another great day. Yesterday was a beautiful bluebird day out on the slopes, with promising clouds starting to form as the lifts were closing. the clouds definitely delivered and we woke up to a big big dump of 35cm up top and an equally large dump in the village. We were all walking to the lifts in knee deep powder.

The snow is still falling heavily and there’s going to be a lot more for the rest of the day. Finally the day has come here at Nozawa Onsen. The rest of the week is looking nice with some smaller dumps for a couple of days into the New Year.

The fresh snow is still quite loose and visibility is limited so choose your tracks wisely and ride together. Have a blast out there!

Weather; Sunny!

The snow didn’t stop falling yesterday; we received a welcome dump of snow covering all the rooves and trees, and most importantly on the runs. The temperatures were cold and the visibility wasn’t great, but the on piste conditions were fantastic. The snow stopped in the late evening and temperatures stayed cold both up top and in the village so the snow is still nice and soft.

Today’s looking like it’ll be a beautiful morning with some clouds forming in the late afternoon. Snow should start falling soon after and temperatures will fall once again as the system starts to take shape over Nozawa Onsen.

Heavy snow is on its way and the powder days are upon us with more snow to come and the base getting deeper. A nice 30cm is expected over the next 24 hours. The mountain is quite busy at the moment with Japanese schools on holidays, so let’s share the runs and try to avoid any accidents! Safe riding!
