A beautiful day of blue skies yesterday left us feeling bittersweet. It was awesome to see the sun but we were all hoping for more snow.luckily, It’s been snowing overnight and we woke up to 15cm of fresh up the top and nearly 15 in the village too. Since lifts opening this morning we’ve already received another 5cm. The snow doesn’t look like it’ll be stopping any time soon either. the snow should become lighter in the afternoon but we’ll still be receiving some more in the afternoon.
Tomorrow looks like it’ll be a beautiful up on the slopes, with clear skies for the morning before clouding over in the late afternoon and dumping 16 cm overnight. We’re in for a good week to come and a good start to the new year if this weather system keeps progressing over the next couple of days.
Now that the snow is starting to build up, the tree runs are becoming more and more and more tempting. Make the right decisions and keep yourself safe on the mountain!
Base at top: 40 cm
Temp at Top; -7 Degrees
Base at Uenotaira 40 cm
New Snow since close: 15 cm
Weather: cloudy with light snow throughout the day
Yesterday’s conditions were quite icy but some snow started falling in the afternoon. It started snowing in the village later in the afternoon and has been falling most of the night. The village has a nice light coating of snow and the top has a fresh 15cm.
The future is looking good with fresh snow forecast for the next four days. We should be getting around 10cm a day. Wednesday looks like it’ll be a beautiful clear day to make the most of the fresh snow. Temperatures at the top won’t be getting above -4 so all the fresh snow should settle nicely. Tomorrow will be an incredibly chilly day with temperatures not getting above -10 and a wind chill factor of -24. Stay warm!! As for the village the temperature will be hovering between -5 and 0 degrees, with snow continuing to fall over the next couple of days.
We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and are keen to get out there and test out any new gear!

Santa managed to drop some snow up top for us last night. Just a few centimetres this morning and it’s going to continue snowing for the rest of the day. The freezing level at the moment has just reached the village altitude; it’s snowing! The snow should keep falling all afternoon and will continue to build up over Saturday and Sunday. We’re hoping to open more of the resort soon. Which run are you looking forward to opening the most? What originally looked like a harsh, short storm a few days ago has now eased into a more moderate storm but spread over a day or two more. So up top is looking good and www are hoping for a white change in town soon too.
Merry Christmas from everyone at Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort!
This time last year in Nozawa. we’re hoping for some of this!
The Nozawa Holidays staff Christmas dinner last night, a big success!
Conditions on the slopes yesterday were fairly good; the fog lifted early in the day and we got views of mountains and valleys all around, although the wind was quite strong. Today is looking like it’ll be somewhat foggier but with much milder winds. Some snow should start falling up the top this evening and will gradually get heavier throughout tomorrow as the storm progresses. It’ll be getting cold over the next three days, reaching -13 with a windchill of -25 on Sunday. The cold temperatures will keep the snow dry and fluffy meaning more powdery snow.
In the village we’re expecting a little more rain later today and tomorrow morning before the snow starts falling in the afternoon. From then on we’re hoping to open some more of the resort, so let’s keep our fingers crossed and just wait and see what the clouds bring.
Base at top: 50 cm
Temp at Top; -2 Degrees
Base at Uenotaira 45 cm
New Snow since close: 5 cm
Weather; Sun creeping through the clouds
The cool and cloudy conditions of yesterday kept the snow steadily falling at higher altitudes. The base is looking nice and the saplings and grass roots on the slopes have practically all disappeared. We received another 5cm up top yesterday so get out on those groomers for a bit of fresh snow!
Down in the village there was some rain which has unfortunately washed away most of the surrounding snow. Snow should start falling on Christmas Eve though so we’re hoping to wake up to a white Christmas! The snow will continue falling throughout Christmas Day and Boxing Day, being heaviest during the nights.
Hopefully after this dump we’ll be able to ski back down to the resort. Fingers crossed!
