Snow is in the air!

by Mark on December 17, 2015

It’s always exciting to wake up and see snow falling outside, and this morning we were blessed with the first lot of predicted snow. The trees have begun to turn white and we can see a nice base starting to develop on the slopes. A few of the guests have already got into the spirit and This morning we witnessed the first snowball fight of the season.

There’s more snow to come throughout the day, particularly up the top of the resort. It’s looking like it will be an exciting couple of days to come with some more snow showers predicted and the expected opening of the resort by the weekend. The village farmers are finishing up their work for the season just as the skiers and boarders are preparing for theirs. Stay tuned to keep up with the transition into a real winter here at Nozawa Onsen.

Exciting news at Nozawa Onsen

by Mark on December 16, 2015

Start saying goodbye to the trees and shrubs, they’ll soon be covered in snow!

It’s looking cold outside and even colder up the top. The forecast has blessed us with an even better prediction than yesterday; a solid 43cm for tomorrow which is just what we need! Unfortunately there’s no snow in the village just yet but we’re expecting some tonight. The top of the resort will be getting a nice dusting over the course of today.

The photo featured here is of one of the most famous Onsens of the village. A traditional experience and a great way to prepare your muscles for the weekend, when our lifts will hopefully be open.

Looking outside we can see some thick clouds covering the higher sections of Nozawa Onsen. They’re looking quite heavy and ready to unload some snow. Whether they do or not is out of our control, but there’s no harm in hoping. Any moment now!

Tonight is the night!

by Mark on December 15, 2015

Nozawa Onsen is expecting the good stuff to start falling tonight. A few centimeters to begin with and it won’t be stopping until Thursday. Thursday is looking like the big day with plenty of snow dumping throughout the whole day. Some more again is predicted for the weekend. We are hoping to open our lifts on Friday. Everyone here is tapping their fingers in anticipation and the snow angels seem to be on our side. It looks like it’ll be a cold day on Thursday with a maximum of negative seven degrees, so stay warm!!

Neobar opened last night, which was a huge success. Guests, staff, and locals all enjoyed themselves and got to know each other, and the DJ kept everyone entertained with some smooth music.

Here’s hoping we wake up to snow piling up tomorrow morning!PW3A1039 Screen Shot 2015-12-15 at 10.53.29 am

This shot was taking early last season. Lets hope another bumper season is set to start soon in Nozawa

This shot was taking early last season. Lets hope another bumper season is set to start soon in Nozawa

A pretty large system is looking like kicking in from Wednesday and more so Thursday with a big dump of snow expected in Nozawa. The resort staff are all meeting that day and the talk around the town is we could see Nozawa Onsen resort opening this Friday! The Gondola was doing test runs today too.
Still in the hands of the gods but the beat of the dance is getting louder…
