Here at Nozawa Onsen, we’re all counting down the days until we start seeing the snow piling up. In fact, the forecast is telling us that there is only one more day! Snow should start falling on Tuesday night and won’t be stopping until Thursday night. There is some more predicted snow for the coming weekend which should all help to build a solid base for the season to come. If all goes as planned, we’ll be out riding in no time at all.
Today, a number of our guests are going to see the snow monkeys, one of the highlights of a stay at Nozawa Onsen. The monkeys have their own natural hot springs to bathe in and warm up which is a spectacular sight to see as the steam rises off the water and the monkeys go about their day.
Tonight is the opening of the Neo Bar, a popular place with locals and visitors. A great place to unwind after a day on the slopes. The bar is located up the top of the village.
Let’s cross our fingers and wait eagerly for this snow. Not long to go!
As we’re reaching mid-December, the forecasts are starting to look more and more promising for the next few days. The team is working hard and final preparations are coming together for the season.
Yesterday turned into a beautiful bluebird day, and fortunately our guests were able to catch some runs over at Ryuoo Park, a nearby resort. The perfect weather and the weekend meant for a large crowd over there, but everyone was stoked to be able to hit the slopes. Another bunch took mountain bikes out for a spin, challenging themselves to a 10km climb before riding through snow with flakes flying off the tires. They described it as fantastic. It’s good to know the guests are still enjoying the company of other guests, the atmosphere, and the culture that Nozawa Onsen provides.
Unfortunately the conditions at this time of year can be a bit hit and miss, however there’s only a few more days until we start seeing some snow. There are some good dumps forecast for Wednesday which means we should be able to get the lifts turning. Time to start waxing those skis and boards!
Mt Dock Rentals and Outlet store and the Gondola Cafe below the main Nagasaka Gondola the hub before you hit the slopes
Another exciting addition to the landscape in Nozawa this season is the Mt Dock Complex right at the base of the Nagasaka Gondola. Housing a rental shop, Outlet Gear Store and the Gondola Café.
A cool collaboration that is sure to be popular. Can sort some fat skis, a new pair of goggles and a hot cup of fresh coffee all before jumping on the Gondola and heading up the slopes.
Funky and friendly vibe so drop in and see the guys for anything you need. Located right next to the Lift Ticket booth too so can get your lift passes sorted there too. Set to open in 1 week on the 19th of December just in time for the snow…
Great set up with a contemporary Cafe and funky layout at the Mt Dock complex in Nozawa
The Gondola Cafe will be a modern European style Cafe serving Hot Coffee, Sandwiches and Cakes. Great location, friendly staff and yummy food
Sunsets on another magic day in Nozawa. Will be even prettier in a few days when the snow arrives and the lifts roll
Another cold clear start to the day here in Nozawa Onsen. Could almost get used to this, makes life pretty easy not having to shove all that snow to get out the front door! This time last year we had a massive 3 meters of snow in 4 days. Anyway looks like the snow will be here soon enough see the forecast attached.
Temps are going up tomorrow morning with strong south winds then the westerly change will bring in some good snow for the top tomorrow night. Not sure that will be enough for the switch to get flicked on the lifts to roll on Saturday morning but would be nice if it does. If not from Wednesday the 16th Winter proper is looking like it will take hold of Nozawa with cold temps and serious snow on the menu.
Talking to the resort managers they are predicting the same at this stage. So as my old Ski Patrol boss said to me in the Onsen last night with a glint in is eye. Don’t worry the snow will arrive soon and before long we will be hoping it will stop! After 70 Seasons in Nozawa I think he knows what he is talking about! We look forward to welcoming you to Winter Nozawa style soon…

As pretty as it looks no lifts running as yet so the focus today is on nearby Ryuoo Park where we have been running some guests over to for some skiing.
