That is correct with Mother Natures blessing on the snow front the Nozawa Onsen Resort is planning to get the lifts rolling on 28th of November 2015 just 1 month from today!

Winter is coming quick, whether or not the snow arrives will have to wait and see but generally we are open early December most seasons. It is a nice time to be in the Village and see the evolution from quiet farming village to a white covered bustling Ski Resort. Still good availability until the end of December for any one keen to come up.

The Adventure of Nozawa Onsen Japan

by Mark on October 24, 2015

We get a lot of families that come and stay with us in Nozawa year after year for which we are very grateful. This group of families from Western Australia has been coming for near on 10 years now! So we have seen the kids grow from little 8 year olds into young adults.
On their last trip they put together this amazing video gives a good insight into how much fun your next trip could be with a few days in Tokyo and a week or so in Nozawa. Nice work guys, thanks for posting and look forward to seeing you back again this season.

They stayed at Kamoshika Lodge by the way which is right on the slopes below the main Nagasaka Gondola amazing spot. It still has good availability from February 15th on so just click here to check it  https://www.nozawaholidays.com/properties/kamoshika-lodge/

First Snow in Japan

by Mark on October 14, 2015

Mt Fuji at 3776m is one of the first places to get snow in Japan

Mt Fuji at 3776m is one of the first places to get snow in Japan

Fuji san is the highest mountain in Japan standing at 3,776 meters above sea level. The next highest is Mt Kita Dake in Yamanashi at 3,193 meters. So Mt Fuji being the highest point by almost 600m it is going to be one of the first places to see the snow in Japan.

Many people may think that Mt Fuji has snow on it all year round but in the Summer months it is pretty bare and a popular time to make the climb. A friend of ours was camping just near by this past weekend for the Asagri Jam Music Festival and got this great snap of Mt Fuji putting on probably her first Winter coat for the season.

The Asagiri Jam Festival is a great event with a very laid back feel and amazing views and camp area. Not sure why they did not call this one the Fuji Rock Festival!

Anyway signs of winter are emerging and a few of the ski resorts have also reported first dustings. So start the dance and everyone can get a little excited now! Thanks Rodney for the great photo!

Views of Lake Nojiri from Tangaram next to Madarao resort. Magic...

Views of Lake Nojiri from Tangaram next to Madarao resort. Magic…

We have posted a few Summer activities going on in our neighbouring resort Madarao about time we put up a winter shot. Madarao is located just across the Chikuma river and you can see it from the upper slopes of Nozawa.

The resort was very popular with students mainly in the early 90s and used to be completely packed. Like many resorts in Japan it got quiet pretty quickly after the boom times. Aki san and the team over there have been working hard on putting it back on the map and it is becoming popular again. They have been concentrating on their powder game with 60% of courses ungroomed. There are some great tree runs and amazing views to be enjoyed.

It only has 440m vertical compared to 1085m at Nozawa Onsen so often people will only stay for a few days also not much of an après scene without the village atmosphere of Nozawa. So it makes for a great day trip from Nozawa Onsen and we have a bus running daily. Here is a link http://www.no-to-ma-bus.com/english.php

It takes a bit over an hour and only costs 800 yen return trip. Need to book a day in advance so either ask your lodge to book or go to the ticket counter in Nozawa.

Tangaram is the resort next door that interconnects with Madarao and if going well worth spending the extra yen to get a dual ticket as makes it easier to access some of the tree runs. This photo was taken from there and has amazing views of Lake Nojiri.
