Just like that and boom we have a “ Magic Foot “ on April the 5th! The official figures have not dropped as yet but with about 20cm in town I figure there should be a bit more up top.
One of the guests asked me last night if their kids were going to see snow fall in the Village before they leave today. Sure enough it started lightly just before we went to bed last night and then this morning we have a solid blanket covering the whole town.
Being the weekend there should be a few more lifts open too and not much motion around town so don’t think there will be a lot of competition for tracks.
It should snow a bit over the weekend with low temps then back to sunshine on Monday.
Spring is a great time for Kids to fall in love with skiing. Kai and friends cruising on Uenotaira

Bit of a bleak morning in Nozawa with light rain falling in the Village. The forecast is promising snow for the top but the cameras are not showing any yet. Temps are set to drop rapidly this afternoon so hopefully some snow for the upper slopes.
Yesterday was a warm spring day probably not the best for the powder hounds but for the kids the sunshine and slower snow was perfect for learning and turning! Here is a link to lessons in Nozawa http://www.nozawaholidays.com/lesson-registration/
Lots of photos of Cherry blossoms filtering thru from Tokyo and Osaka and “Hanami” is in full swing in the lower lying towns now. Another reason to visit Japan at this time of year.

Perfect clear blue skies in Nozawa this morning after what was a fairly chilly night.
We had a BBQ yesterday afternoon and it was a bit cool hanging on to a beer! Today may have been a better day as the mercury looks like will hit about 15 degrees in the village today.
Mornings seem to be the best conditions at the moment but I don’t mind the slush in the afternoons either. That last little dump made for a nice few days up top and the views were spectacular
The forecast is unfortunately for some rain tomorrow night and into Thursday with temps dropping Friday and a chance of snow up top then some sunshine into next week. Anyway time to don the T Shirt and embrace your inner Spring…

Unfortunately we have had some moderate rain showers this morning which has resulted in a minor loss of coverage on the lower parts of the mountain. The rain has stopped for the time being but is expected to increase later in the afternoon. Strong winds have forced the closure of the Nagasaka gondola however the Hikage gondola is operational. If your heading up today make sure you bring highly waterproof gear. The snow will be fast at least with the pick being mid mountain groomed runs. We expect heavy snow from mid mountain up later tonight.
Yesterday was awesome. It was the warmest day of the year so far, pushing up to around 18C in the shade at village level. The perfect sunny day meant that many took to skiing and boarding in nothing more than a t-shirt and boardies. It was really fun for all those involved and many beach themed parties sprung up across the mountain. Even the snow wasn’t too sticky, perfect spring slush.
Looks like we will continue to have some spring temperatures into the foreseeable future with the freezing level dipping tonight but only to 1000m. Snow is expected from that level up. Conditions will clear later on Monday and Tuesday should be fine. From then onwards the forecast has been highly variable so any prediction is uncertain. But we do expect a weather event of some kind.
