New Snow since close: 10 cm

Weather; Bluebird Perfection

People are going to start thinking we make this stuff up! Another picture perfect day in Nozawa today. Not as much fresh as the past few days but still 10 cm, nice cold temps and glorious sunshine!

Yesterday was nothing short of spectacular on the mountain. Even being a Saturday there was not so many people about and there were fresh lines still to be had after lunch. Spent some time down at the kids park too with the family and it was a great hive of activity with sleds, tubes and mini skis in motion.

The forecast is good and looking like a huge dump tonight and into tomorrow. Anyway enough from me better get back up for some valuable R & D!

Three Days in a row of 30cm plus falls in Nozawa Onsen. March delivers…

Base up top: 370 cm        Temp Top; -11 Degrees

Base at Uenotaira 310cm

Base at bottom; 205 cm

New Snow since close: 40 cm

Weather; Bluebird Perfection

Anyone up here enjoying this March madness would be forgiven for pinching him or herself! Another day another “Magic Foot” and then some.

Official report showing 60cm of fresh at Uenotaira! 40cm at other areas and now the sun has come out for another perfect Blue bird day!

Yesterday was sublime and as good as any day of the season. The snow was squeaky under foot on the groomers and knee-deep powder anywhere off the sides. With nice cold temps up top and no one to compete with for fresh tracks it was pristine all day.

We have had over 100cm in 3 days now bringing the base close to a season high and the biggest dump is expected for tomorrow night!

Can never understand why not many people come up in March. But the lucky souls that are here are not complaining! Have another great day…

Gab and Luke from Nozawa Holidays have seen more powder days than most. They reckon yesterday was one of the best..

More snow overnight again only 3 cm expected. We get 30cm…

Base up top: 350cm        Temp Top; -9 Degrees
Base at Uenotaira: 285cm.
Base at Nagasaka: 180cm.
New Snow since close: 30cm at the summit, 50cm on Uenotaira, and 20cm at Nagasaka.
Weather: Mostly fine with passing clouds.

A beautiful crisp morning in Nozawa Onsen; Snow fell consistently from close of lifts until after midnight which left us with a great morning present of 50cm of fresh up on Uenotaira! March really is magic!

There is a 20km/h north-westerly blowing at the moment on the mountain and the temperature is     -9C at Yamabiko and -1C at Nagasaka.  The Lower steeps runs will be great skiing this morning but will get heavier in the afternoon, so head higher later in the day.

The forecast is for snow to roll in again today and continue on and off until Wednesday next week. Temperatures should stay low with the freezing level expected to be well below the bottom lifts until Tuesday night.

A return to winter

New Snow since close: 30 cm

Weather; Snow

Winter has returned with a vengeance here in Nozawa Onsen. Blizzard conditions overnight and this morning have eased revealing a mountain loaded with fresh japow. Since last lifts yesterday we have had the magic 30cm fall across the upper mountain and half that down at village level. Pretty much all areas of the mountain excluding the death cookie zones will be epic today. Avoid tight gullies, run outs below steep terrain and head for even moderate slopes. Stability is low.

Yesterday saw wet snow fall across the upper mountain for most of the day, with some rain in the village. There was some good riding to be had if you knew where to look although the snow conditions made riding off piste challenging. High traffic groomed runs retained the best snow speed on the mountain.

The forecast ahead continues to impress. It still looks like it will be one of the best one week forecast for the season with a very high likelihood that well over a meter will fall during this time. A strong low pressure system over Hokkaido will blast the region will a cold siberian, moisture laden NW airstream. In short, snowfalls and very cold temperatures for at least the next 5 days. Tuesday and Wednesday next week could see bluebird conditions.

Excellent week ahead

New Snow since close: 5 cm

Weather; Moderate snow

Its dumping! Heavy flakes are falling rapidly from the sky this morning in Nozawa Onsen. Since last lifts yesterday around 5 cm has collected on the upper slopes. Temperatures are colder than expected as well with snow falling even in the village. For intermediate to advanced riders the Yamabiko trees will offer some great riding in the fresh pow whilst the mid mountain groomers will be the best bet for some carving action.

Not only was yesterday a visual stunner it was also one of the better days we’ve had recently from a skiing and boarding perspective. The boot deep layer of fresh provided some excellent turns through the trees. The fact that you could feel the hard surface beneath the powder layer meant it was excellent for those just learning to ski and board powder. There were some spectacular views, with even the Hakuba range visible in the distance.

We are looking at possibly one of the best one week forecast we have seen so far this season. Consistent moderate and at times heavy snowfalls will move over the region over the next 6 days. The temperatures are excellent over this time as well with the freezing level sitting at 0m. Winds will be moderate.
