A light sprinkling with more to come

by Mark on December 29, 2009

We had 10cm overnight up top and 5cm in the village. This combined with light winds and good visibility make for a lovely day up on the hill.

Whilst conditions are a little patchy on the lower slopes, we’re expecting a nice dump Wed/Thursday which should see all courses opening again for next weekend.

All the Staff have arrived and look forward to meeting all the Guests and bring in the New Year in Nozawa Onsen

The Snow has not stopped here in Nozawa, we had to shovel the carpark in front of Villa Nozawa 3 times yesterday. Then when we woke up this morning there was another 30cm plus deep! This means we now have a gym, shoveling snow is a great work out!

This has all converted to a 110cm base up the top and some very happy people

More to come with 50cm due again tomorrow!!

Dumping in Nozawa onsen.

by Mark on December 18, 2009

A beautifull snowy morning here in Nozawa! The long awaited big dump  looks like it has finally set in. Snow fell on and off throughout the day yesterday and it looks as if we are set for great conditions over the weekend.

There was a base of only 45cm at the top yesterday but more than 55cm is expected to fall today alone!

Prayers have been answered in Nozawa Onsen this morning

Last night so a good solid fall with 15cm atleast gathering on the top of cars in the Village this morning. The resort is reporting 30cm up the top

Still some beautiful light snow falling outside at the moment and forecast looks like snow is set to continue for the rest of the week with a massive dump expected on Friday

The resort has announced it is going to open the Resort on Thursday the 17th of December so music to our ears. At this stage the Nagasaka Gondola and Yamabiko Lifts are opening then they plan to open more on the weekend snow permitting

So time to Wax up the planks and get into snow mode! See you up here

Things to do Near Nozawa Onsen

by Mark on December 10, 2009

It has been a slower start to the snow in Nozawa Onsen this season after the first dumps in November. That however looks like it will change in a big way starting Monday December 14th with some good falls expected and freezing levels dropping

Have had a lot of guests up already and they are still having a great time and finding lots of fun things to do in Nozawa Onsen and also the surrounding areas. Here are a few shots

The World famous Snow Monkeys are just a 45 minute drive from Nozawa Onsen. It is at a mystical place called Jigokudani or Hell’s Valley as it is known due to the steep surrounding walls and swirling steam spouting form the earth

It is pretty amazing to see these little guys running around and taking a dip in the hot springs, remarkably similar to human beings!

The Ski Resort of Yokoteyama in Shiga Kogen has been open for a while now and had some fun early season conditions for all to enjoy while waiting for Nozawa Onsen Resort to open which according to the Resort President will be as soon as the snow hits so hoping for next week. In the meantime we have been taking guests over to Shiga Kogen to get in a few nice turns

The Lifts are yet to open so the guests have been doing a bit of pre-season training and hiking up to the top for a sled ride, snowball fight or to make a snowman. Great way to see some of this beautiful scenery and work up a sweat. The onsens await on the way down…
