People often talk about Shonan Magic, Shonan being the famous or more so infamous Surf Spot near Tokyo. I am not sure if it refers to the way the waves there suddenly appear or disappear but when it is on the waves can be perfect.
Nozawa has its own magic and a good dump can totally change the landscape.
We have experienced a bit of Nozawa Magic in the last day and a half with about 80cm of fresh snow falling
It was classic powder yesterday with stories of waist deep coming thick and fast
Even on Grand Prix and most of the lower runs.
It is still snowing heavily outside now so will be an amazing day on the Mountain. Better have a powder suit on if venturing off the groomers, a fashionable one piece is always a good choice
The forecast was for light snow today but yet to be seen and then Sunny tomorrow.
More of the same ahead with a big dump expected again on Sunday Night. Happy Days….
Most runs and lifts are open now they are just holding a few probably until the crowds arrive tomorrow

Here are a few Before and After shots from this dump – pretty to watch!
The Snow has arrived in Nozawa Onsen with 30cm plus settling on the ground in the Village.
Should be more up top.
The shot above is of the car park and Hiace at Villa Nozawa a familiar sight for some. This was early this morning and we have probably had a further 30cm since then has been non stop
It started to snow lightly at about 11pm last night and was not sure it was going to hit
But sure enough this morning we were woken with the sound of snow sliding off the roof
This dump will hopefully go a long way to getting the lower runs having a healthy cover and some of the brush up the top getting covered up.
Yesterday was still a nice day but people were looking for some more and prayers have been answered
Still snowing heavily outside and forecast to continue with moderate snow throughout today
Getting lighter tomorrow then a sunshine day forecast for Saturday which should make it a big day on the mountain
Awesome bluebird day here in Nozawa with great views across the Valley.
Snow conditions are good up top where it is nice and cold at -5 degrees.
Lower slopes need some more snow but it is expected tonight so hope it arrives.
Fun day up top yesterday, a but slushy dow low in the afternoon.
Outlook is good with cold temps and quite a lot of snow expected over the next few days.

Future Japan Bob Sled Champion Kosuke ready to rumble
Shaping up to be the best day of the season so far in Nozawa
Official reports are showing 20cm of fresh snow overnight but there is probably that much on the roof of the cars so figure it is more like 30cm plus up top
The sun is peaking thru and temps are pretty cold so snow quality should be excellent
Yesterday saw consistent snow falling throughout the day
All the lifts are now open including Karasawa
Most of the slopes to except the lower steeps
A few sunny days are on the menu then a good size dump due on Wednesday night
Great time to be in the mountains

Looking like a nice start to 2011 in Nozawa.
Bits of sun shine and a nice and calm in the Village.
.
Actually pretty quiet night in town last night just a few rock stars in the Karaoke bars.
Most people were hitting the snow.
Was a festive vibe up in the Nagasaka slopes last night and an impressive Fireworks display to welcome in the New Year. The temples filled after that with everyone praying for a great year ahead, will be busy up there for the next few days. Pretty magic location so try and get up for a look if can.
Unfortunately not much snow fell last night, it was pretty cold and clear.
Light to Moderate snow is forecast over today and tonight and the next good dump is looking like Thursday.
Snow quality is pretty good but will be good to get some more to cover up the smaller shrubs and get the lower slopes firing.
Happy New Year from Nozawa and we look forward to seeing you on the slopes in 2011
Snow permitting the lifts are open until May 5th so we still have a good long season ahead
