Views from Yamabiko Nozawa Onsen

Beautiful day here in Nozawa sun is breaking thru the clouds and looks like will be a magic day up the mountain
Yesterday was a similar set up with some light snow falls in the morning and sunny afternoon
Was some nice little stashes of powder on the sides of the runs yesterday but a bit icy on the groomed runs

As they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder and hope to see some more snow to top things up
Temperatures are pretty cold up top and some snow due tonight
The longer range forecast is indicating a very white Christmas so lets hope that Santa Claus delivers!

Yamabiko a different world in Nozawa Onsen

Snowing in the Village this morning with light to moderate conditions
They had a bit of a dusting up top overnight and should continue throughout the day
Yamabiko is still the only area accessible riding the Nagasaka Gondola up and then the top two Yamabiko lifts are running

Still just enough to have some fun but need some more and the forecasts are looking like a bit more on the way
Things can change pretty quick here so hoping for a serious dump soon

This season Nozawa Onsen resort is also running back country tours this year
At this stage will just be on the weekends and can book at the Ski School or just ask at your Lodge
Great way to check out some of the awesome terrain surrounding the resort

First Day of the Season in Nozawa

by Mark on December 13, 2010

Yukari san cruising the Sunset on Uenodaira Nozawa

Lots of happy people coming down from the Mountain yesterday
By all reports was a great first day of the season

Snow quality was surprisingly good and there was a decent coverage on all of the slopes in operation
Light snow was falling throughout the day on top

Still not much on the lower slopes and will need a few good dumps before we see them open, but Yamabiko on top is a winter wonderland. Amazing what a difference 1000m of elevation can make

Overcast weather here this morning and unfortunately some rain forecast however that is set to turn into snow when the temperature drops this evening

Then still showing consistent falls throughout the week so hope for more slopes to open by next weekend.
The Resort Shuttle bus is also due to start operation from Saturday 18th of December

Courses open:

Yamabiko courses A
Yamabiko course C
Yamabiko course D
Yamabiko course E
Uenodaira course

Lifts operating:

Nagasaka Gondola (both sections)
The two Yamabiko quad lifts

Nozawa set to open

A welcome sight in the Village this morning, the snow has arrived in Nozawa Onsen
There were some pretty excited people around town last night when the ground started to turn white,

Was pretty wet and heavy down low but this morning sees lighter flakes falling in town and the resort says there has been 30cm of fresh snow overnight up top at Yamabiko

That was enough for them to confirm Nozawa Onsen Resort will open tomorrow Saturday December 11th, with the Nagasaka Gondola rolling at 8:40am

Which is great news the wait is over and time to hit the slopes with a 60cm base now in place on the higher slopes and sunny conditions forecast for the next few days should be a nice opening weekend

Lift tickets are still discounted too at just 3000 Yen a day until December 17th so come on up

The forecast for next week is showing more snow on the radar so hopefully we are set for the season now

Was a magic day in the Mountains yesterday had a big group from Singapore staying with us and although the lifts weren’t open they had a ball sliding and playing in the snow half way up the mountain at Uenotaira. For some of them it was the first time to see snow and the smiles said it all. The joy of the slide…..

Fun in the Sun in Nozawa Onsen

by Mark on December 4, 2010

Yamabiko early snow

Playing the waiting game in Nozawa at the moment. Had a magic day up the top at Yamabiko yesterday. Drove up with a few people that had never seen snow before so they were stoked to just make a snow man and throw a few snowballs.

Not enough to slide on yet unless you are using a friends board! Some snow due tonight and then pretty consistent falls due over next week. At this stage the Nozawa Ski Resort is planning to open on Saturday December 11th which is good news, so think snow!

We still have some great rooms available for December at both the Lodges and the Houses so send us a booking form from the site or an email if keen to get up for the first turns of the season

Yamabiko still cool in December

One more of the surrounding view from the top of Nozawa, magic any time of year still hope to see it whiter in the near future!
